P5/6/7 NEWSLETTER
We have had a busy term In P5,6,7 with lots of great learning taking place.
We started off in maths on problem solving, which has benefits across the curriculum and into everyday life. The children learnt to apply specific strategies to solve problems, applying the five stages of the problem solving process. They applied their problem solving skills in real life, to plan and organise a football tournament.
We have also spent time on our times tables, using active mental maths games to make our learning fun. In information handling we used graphs to show results of a survey on pets in school.
Our topic on World War II has already covered significant events, the preparations for war, Propaganda, the Blitz and Evacuation. The children are also carrying out their own research into topics on the war, such as Hitler and D Day. We have also linked our writing and reading, Carries War, to this topic, as well as art and drama. Next term we will be looking at rationing, womens role in the war, Islay in the war, rememberance and VE day. This topics strong links to citzenship will also be examined. Many thanks to all the parents and grandparents who have contributed to this project and helped to bring it to life!
In PE the children have been improving their basket ball skills, despite the lack of a basketball hoop! If anyone out there has a spare hoop they are willing to donate we would be grateful!
For science we have been studying energy sources, making wind turbines, wave power machines and bobbin tanks in class.
The children have been making newsletters in ICT highlighting what they have done this term. Click the link below to see an example from Cersty and Rosie.
