Imperial War Museum

Published by portcharlotte under News

During the holidays I went to the Imperial war Museum in Manchester with my dad. My favourite bit of it was the Bomber command center, with pictures of planes and a Lancaster turret. On the wall there was a picture of a Halifax bomber. In the main section there was a actual Harrier plane, a tank and lots of guns from World War 2. I learnt that the total number of deaths in World War 2 in this country was over 6 million.

Harvest Assembly

Published by portcharlotte under News

P3&4 put on a wonderful harvest assembly in front of parents today, where they talked about all their learning for the term.  Well done to all those involved.  We have all learnt a lot about Roman clothing, Gods and weapons, life cycles, art rubbings and how harvest festival is celebrated in different religions.

P5/6/7 NEWSLETTER

Published by portcharlotte under News

We have had a busy term In P5,6,7 with lots of great learning taking place.

We started off in maths on problem solving, which has benefits across the curriculum and into everyday life.  The children learnt to apply specific strategies to solve problems, applying the five stages of the problem solving process.  They applied their problem solving skills in real life, to plan and organise a football tournament.

We have also spent time on our times tables, using active mental maths games to make our learning fun.  In information handling we used graphs to show results of a survey on pets in school.

Our topic on World War II has already covered significant events, the preparations for war, Propaganda, the Blitz and Evacuation.  The children are also carrying out their own research into topics on the war, such as Hitler and D Day.  We have also linked our writing and reading, Carries War, to this topic, as well as art and drama. Next term we will be looking at rationing, womens role in the war, Islay in the war, rememberance and VE day.  This topics strong links to citzenship will also be examined. Many thanks to all the parents and grandparents who have contributed to this project and helped to bring it to life!

In PE the children have been improving their basket ball skills, despite the lack of a basketball hoop!  If anyone out there has a spare hoop they are willing to donate we would be grateful!

For science we have been studying energy sources, making wind turbines, wave power machines and bobbin tanks in class.

The children have been making newsletters in ICT highlighting what they have done this term.  Click the link below to see an example from Cersty and Rosie.

WW2

Published by portcharlotte under News

We are doing a project on WW2 covering everything. Me and my friend are doing D Day. The British and Americans were trying to push Germans out of France. And we have been making airfix models of planes and boats. We drew lots of boats and planes. We are reading a book about the war. We enjoy finding out about D Day.
